I am requesting a variety of alternative seating such as soft seats, bean bags, wobble cushions and balance balls to give students the ability to stretch and move around. My kinders need to be able to get their fidgets out in a safe way, without tipping their chairs. According to 'Parenting' magazine, children that are performing a task that involves "recalling and manipulating information", were more active than tasks such as playing video games and watching television. Kids with ADHD move twice as much and therefore need extra movement and stimulation for their "working memory". Giving students the freedom to pick where they sit and what they sit on gives them a sense of ownership in the classroom. Due to time constraints and overload of common core goals, we don't get enough brain breaks. Your wonderful donations will give my students the ability to have choice in the classroom, increase their core muscles, and fidget safely while focusing on learning.
