Our bodies are constantly processing sensory information from our environments. Sometimes our bodies get tired and we need to move. Sometimes the tags on our shirt tickle us and we need to cut them out. Maybe there is too much noise and we need to move to a quieter place. For my students, processing sensory information can be overloading and impact their attention and participation in the educational setting. The lunchroom is too noisy. They need to fidget to pay attention to instruction or they need some deep pressure to remain calm. These tools will help assist my students in regulating their bodies and ensure that they participate to their fullest potential in their educational experience. The items for my project include a variety of items tailored for a students' individual needs. A trampoline for students who requires large movements and input throughout their entire bodies will help them attend and participate in the learning experience. We need noise cancelling headphones for students who are overwhelmed by increased noise during lunch or at assemblies. Without these headphones, students cannot participate or interact with their peers due to the increased noise. Weighted lap pads are for students who need increased deep pressure to feel secure and calm in their classroom environments. Chair cushions will be for students who need to "wiggle" in their seats to learn. Sensarock is for students who require vestibular input such as rocking to assist in regulating their bodies for learning.
