Research has shown that giving students choices in their work spaces helps them to work collaboratively, communicate more effectively, and engage in critical thinking. Adding these options will allow students to work where they learn best. Currently my students are able to choose from regular tables, standing table, sitting tables, kneeling desks, stools, and laying on a mat on the floor. I would like to be able to provide more diverse work spaces for my students. Giving the students choices throughout their school day helps them to control and contribute to their own learning. Each child will be able to choose a spot around the room during independent work time that helps them best attend to their work and stay on task.
