Scholastic News offers age appropriate, transdisciplinary content in their magazines. This means each issue is written with 6 and 7 year old learners in mind, allowing them to read non-fiction text about various topics related to academics and social emotional learning. The pictures are in color and there are interactive components to each issue as well such as questions, activities, etc. The Science Spin magazine is filled with engaging content connected to science standards! Included with the subscriptions are great resources that will support teaching and learning in and beyond the classroom. Some examples of these resources are teacher planning guides, online "listen and read" capabilities so that students can read the subscriptions online if they choose, videos, learning games, printable activity connections, and "Big Book" version of the magazines so that the teacher can use the resource when teaching small groups or the whole class. Giving each student their very own copies of the magazines will allow them to write on them, highlight, underline, circle, etc. which are all ways young readers learn to interact with text. They may also bring their magazines home which will encourage them to read to their families and share their learning with others!
