These headphones will find immediate use once they are in my classroom! Several of my students have just been introduced to e-books and audio books, and they are amazed by it! Already I can see the improvement in students who previously I couldn't even get to TOUCH a book, let alone read one! Our campus is now 100% one-to-one technology, meaning that every single student on campus has been issued their own computer to use during the day. We've increased access to the world of books online, but they lack the supplies they need to fully take advantage of these reading opportunities. For many of my students, listening to a story while they can follow along with the actual book in hand makes all the difference in reading comprehension. Listening to the books while following along removes the stress of struggling over every word the student does not know. It increases the speed at which they read, and helps to pace them through the book. It also helps them to hear the words read correctly, and see how those words are built. Many of my students have large vocabularies through listening, but because they struggle with decomposing words and spelling, they lack the ability to recognize words they actually know on the page. Listening to the audio books helps that. When vocabulary improves, reading fluency improves, and when fluency improves, comprehension improves. I want my students to know that they can be successful with reading, no matter how they choose to do it.
