My students will leave their general education classroom to come and work with me in my special education room. It is important to me that the transition is as seamless as possible and that they find a warm and welcoming environment waiting for them. Part of that environment is a exciting and inviting classroom library. It is so important to inspire young readers, especially those who find reading challenging. When a student tells me that they have started to enjoy reading or that they have found an author that they really enjoy it is a special moment. Many of my student's have struggled to read for years and come to dislike books and reading. When a book makes a student giggle or empathize or when they meet a character that they connect with, for me it marks it the birth of a life-long reader.
