The students will expand their vocabulary and understanding about women's issues in the Arab world. They will engage in reading about people who are like them and therefore, be more invested in exploring themes of oppression and conflict. For the girls, these stories will be especially important. When entering the classroom, the girls tend to be too silent leaving the boys with ownership of airspace. I tell them many times to speak up, to make every minute in school count. I tell them that they should learn as much as they can. By reading books like these, more female hands will be raised, more young ladies will be guiding the class lessons, and I hope that many of them end the term with amplified voices, increased confidence and more self-determination and self-motivation.
