The hokki seats and peanut chairs will make a huge impact in children who have experienced trauma and have a difficult time focusing and self-regulating during school. Research has repeatedly shown that students who have experienced trauma have brains that are in a constant state of fear and survival. People become jittery, have difficulty focusing and attaining on a task, and in a constant state of defense. Imagine wanting to solve a multi-step word problem, but your brain is telling your body it must be vigilant of inevitable harm! In all studies, movement is the number one strategy in helping students with trauma learn to regulate their brains so that they can engage in learning. This past year I incorporated many movement techniques for students including walking down the hallway, walking to get a drink, push ups, and regularly planned movement learning activities. The hokki chairs and peanut seats will allow my students to be in a constant state of motion and movement to regulate their brains while still being actively engaged in classroom task! The amount of learning gained for students would increase exponentially in time and quality of work.
