My first two years of teaching I sent home daily reading logs. It proved to be unsuccessful the first two weeks of sending the reading logs home. After communication with my parents I found out that most of them did not have children's books in the home. I provided books for the students out of our classroom library. The students in my class are significantly developmental delayed and easily distracted. It is crucial that they develop print awareness and a strong reading foundation. I started this project after doing research on engaging primary readers. LeapReaders would be a fun and engaging way to build foundational reading skills. For this project, I'm requesting Leapfrog Reading and Writing Systems, and LeapReader Learn to Read sets, workbooks and flash cards. These materials will help my special needs students learn to read in an untraditional fun and engaging way. I am so eager and excited about my new LeapFrog LeapReader class library where reading is more than a task that I will fund whatever is needed after the project expires. Help me help my students!
