Everyday, I meet with students to help them develop their identities as readers and learners! We do this through language development, reading, conversation and joy! The one part that is missing is helping them find their identities in the technological world. Students will have an opportunity to practice their reading and decoding skills on an iPad where they not only will be working to close the achievement gap, but also the technology gap as well! Many of our students are expected to show proficiency on district, state and federal tests and demonstrate what they know by using a computer or an iPad at school. However, many of our students do not have the opportunity to use one outside of the school day on a regular basis, automatically placing them at a disadvantage compared to their peers who are familiar with technology. These iPads will give students an opportunity to independently navigate technology and give them a sense of ownership not only with the tech, but with the reading and language use as well!
