Bakersfield will experience a partial solar eclipse on August 21st. My students will be investigating the relationship between the earth, moon and sun and what causes a total or partial solar eclipse. Many of my students struggle academically. They need to learn through hands-on experiences that are engaging and memorable. The special solar eclipse glasses will allow them to view the eclipse directly and at the same time, keep their eyes protected. I want my students to observe the phenomenon as an engagement strategy before actively investigating the science behind partial and total solar eclipses. My goal is that students will take their experience and apply it in the classroom.
