My students are all high school ESL students who are new to the country. They have low literacy and limited English proficiency but they love to read informational texts. My students need low level, high interest books and texts that are interesting enough to capture their attention and interest. As a teacher, I am doing my best to gradually build up a library that they will access during independent reading, based on their interests and preferences. This project aims at providing students with monthly subscriptions of TIME magazines for a whole year. The topics are interesting and the language is accessible to my beginner ELLS. Should you fund this project, you will help my students not only develop their literacy and language proficiency, but also promote a genuine interest in reading.
