My students, 76 sixth graders, will begin their unforgettable journey with a beautiful drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, which is a cultural experience all on its own and enter the phenomenal Academy of Sciences Museum in San Francisco. They will have the opportunity to visit the early human exhibit in the Natural History Museum, where they will make connections between the exhibit and lessons learned in class. A visit to the aquarium will bring to life the sea creatures they have learned of, and care deeply about while studying human impacts on the environment, and how to reduce their carbon footprint. The rainforest exhibit will enhance the science lessons they have had in class not only in sixth grade, but during their younger years as well. A visit to the planetarium will give our sixth graders, many who come from socioeconomically disadvantaged homes, the experience of a lifetime and teach them that the world is so much bigger than our classroom! This field trip will open our students eyes to new experiences, and will motivate them to continue their studies, and set goals that will allow them to study fascinating topics such as those they will encounter at the Academy of Sciences.
