I teach second grade in lindenwold, NJ. Lindenwold is a low income area and almost all of my students qualify for free lunch. I would describe my school's area as the bridge between urban and suburban. Many of my students are so excited to learn. Many come from homes whose parents had little education and they are trying to make their way and navigate their education with little support, but are so eager to do so! Many students are transient because of the high amount of apartments in the area, but my classroom typically has 23-26 students in it (as we are preparing for the new year numbers change). We read, write, do math, research, create, and befriend one another!
