My students need essential classroom materials to transform a previously used cafeteria into a comfortable, dynamic, and accessible learning environment. With these supplies we can create a warm learning environment where we can challenge and support our students' learning everyday. We will be able to utilize small and whole group instruction, allowing us to customize the delivery of content in new and exciting ways. Due to our students' unique learning needs, we require these supplies in order to provide flexible seating arrangements and classroom environments. We serve a diverse, inclusive community here at the Magical Mendell in Roxbury, MA. We as a school believe in creating a more inclusive, just, and equitable learning environment for ALL. We do this by striving to create an environment of rigor and support so that all students can reach their greatest potential. Our classroom consists of unique and wonderfully made fifth graders. We serve a variety of students and needs including those with IEPs (Individualized Education Plan), 504s, and students who are acquiring English. We use this unique combination of needs to teach students to respect and appreciate human differences and educational needs. As a school on the Roxbury and Jamaica Plain line, we serve a diverse population, both economically and racially. We work diligently to adapt our curriculum and learning opportunities to reflect the same diversity as the area and students around us. This allows all children to see themselves in their education and feel that their backgrounds and unique perspectives are valued.
