I cannot even begin to explain what new equipment would mean to my students! You have to understand that a lot of these kids have very limited experiences with games outside of my class, especially anything beyond the normal team sports such as soccer or basketball. Exposing my students to a new game like pickle ball will give a whole new meaning to playing with a partner and being able to communicate effectively with that person. Learning new games and expanding their horizons helps ensure that each and every one of my students will find at least one game or activity they truly enjoy throughout the year. Scooters for all 32+ students in each of my classes will particularly help our K-2 students with their fine motor skill development. The equipment on this list has been carefully selected because I want to encourage these kids to find games and activities that will promote healthy living beyond just the classroom.
The thought of seeing the look on my kids' faces when they see brand new PE equipment makes me so happy, excited and MOTIVATED about this fundraising project. My students have learned to be very creative with the little PE equipment we have been provided with over the last 5 years. For example: when playing baseball/t-ball, we used a large traffic cone since we didn't have a tee to use. When we need bean bags, I typically end up using small objects such as the flags from our flag football belts because we are down to 5 bean bags from our original set.
