I teach Reading, Writing and Social Studies to 3rd graders. My 3rd grade class has many ESL students that are currently transitioning from bilingual classes. I use a variety of techniques and materials each day to keep the class interesting and to keep my students engaged in the learning process. Stevens Elementary is a neighborhood school in North Houston. It is primarily made up of students who come from non English speaking homes who are economically disadvantaged. The teachers work very hard to help close the learning gaps that many of the students have due to moving around often and from poor educational opportunities in their previous situations. The school offers a bilingual and transitional ESL program to meet the needs of the student population.
