Most can agree that computer programming and coding are key skills for the 21st century. However, most students never get the opportunity to explore and learn within these disciplines while at school. We are committed to changing this paradigm for JTE students with Mini Spheros. The Mini Sphero is a programmable robotic ball and one of the most versatile classroom tools in providing engagement in learning for all students. As students learn the basics of coding through the Sphero, they will also develop their understanding of concepts in all core areas (math, science, ELA, social studies) as well as in art, design thinking, engineering, communication, and collaboration. It is not only an accessible tool for all students but can reach all levels of learning abilities. For example, students that have difficulty communicating verbally, can program the Sphero to say their thoughts and ideas as well as creatively show their understanding of a concept. The unique programming options students can choose from while learning to code, will provide the path toward the excitement and outside the box thinking that gets our students engaged and learning in class, while having fun!
