Having a sustainable food garden will empower my students to be independent and knowledgable when it comes to nutrition and health. So far, we have a ground bed for flowers, and one sizable raised bed for edible plants. Our plan is to move three more raised beds into the space during the summer, before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. A shed will allow us to get the tools and supplies out of my English classroom and into a collaborative, outdoor gardening space. This space will store shovels, hoes, pitchforks, hoses, and other large-scale gardening materials. My new "flipped" classroom will comprise six indoor stations, and one outdoor garden station. This station will not just be a space for students to work with their hands, but also provide a reading environment where benches and standing spaces create an ambience that welcomes a deeper reading experience.
