My students come from multiple languages and backgrounds. By reading engaging books together as a class and being able to follow along with individual copies, we will build language-rich discussions and background knowledge together. With these books,The City of Ember and Holes, my students can build a treasure trove of literature and language as they get lost in great stories! They will also be able to build meaning through shared understanding of plot, setting, characterization, figurative language, and literary devices. These aspects of literature are imperative to understanding not only literature, but many other types of writing as well. This project will expand my students' view of literature and of the world around them.
