My goal in Third Grade is to expose students to the wonderful world of books. With the right book, students can develop a love for reading. Reading stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. Also, reading strengthens brain connections and actually builds new connections and improves concentration. Through reading, students learn about people, places and different experiences. They are exposed to ideas, beliefs, and ways of life from around the world that may be different from those around them. This helps them build and store background knowledge. Finally, reading improves a child’s vocabulary, which leads to more developed language skills and improves the child's ability to write well.
