My wonderful students have been very open to transitions from a new music teacher, to year round construction, to being displaced from the music room to the cafetorium stage for a whole year. They are always excited to use instruments that unfortunately are old, in need of repair, or even missing pieces. They know how to make it work, and they work hard! I am working to provide the best musical experience possible for them. Our school has a classroom set of recorders and drums with drumsticks, and thanks to a fully funded DonorsChoose project and a district sponsored grant, we now have two thirds of a classroom set of ukuleles. Some of our larger classes have to share and take turns playing. Our music room is quite large, and I would love to fill it with more opportunities for my students to comfortably transition into middle school music electives, thereby retaining and/or growing their love of music.
