We all know how very important reading is to the success of our students. They will all read a community text in the context of the classroom, but reading outside of the classroom is just as important. In order to get students reading, they need to be interested and excited about what they are reading. We do our best to stock our library with what we think they will love, but I wanted to turn the reins over to them. This project allows the incoming 8th graders to stock their classroom library with exactly they want to read. It gives them ownership in their classroom and for their independent reading assignments. This way, once we are back to school in September, they can jump right back in and kick things off right with their independent reading!
