I have taught general education classes for 18 years, and I am entering a new journey as an ESE teacher. I am very excited, but teaching in a new area can be quite overwhelming when having to prepare a classroom that requires many needed supplies appropriate to the age group/ability. My students come from varied backgrounds, but many are from low income households and are provided a free breakfast and lunch. My students are on the autism spectrum and/or developmentally delayed and need lots of love, patience, visuals and manipulatives to help them navigate through the school day. My little ones often have a repetitive pattern, and the slightest deviation from their "normal" will turn their world upside down. My little ones need calming strategies to get them back on track, and I have found that music is the key!
