Imagine sitting in a classroom, not knowing what the teacher is saying. Not knowing what the person next to you is saying. Not knowing how to even be in school. That’s how many of my students were when they came to school. All of my students come from poverty. The majority of these kids are refugees whose parents bravely came to America to protect their family. We have over 25 languages on our campus. Because of the high poverty, my students do not get experiences that other kids their age get to experience. Therefore, we are constantly looking up videos online so that my students can imagine experiencing that certain thing. For instance, many of my students have never been to the beach or, on a smaller scale, they’ve never been to a restaurant. I want my students to be able to explore whatever they want to explore. I want to inspire them to work hard so that they can someday have the experiences they dreamed of and provide that for their families. Another reason why I think Chromebooks are a great way to help my students, is that my students don’t have technology at home. In a world that is revolving around technology, it is important for me to encourage a positive digital footprint.
