My students come from an extremely disadvantaged socioeconomic background. In an age of personal computers and smart phones, many lack basic computer skills such as the ability to type and share files. In our region, there is no other district which comes within ten percent of our free and reduced lunch population. Furthermore, we are a majority minority district with high levels of special education students. In addition we have a growing population of English language learners and non-native speakers within our district. Despite their disadvantages, our students excel not only in athletic competition but also in career and engineering fields as well. Our students are competitors, look out!
