This year, I am looking to start incorporating more hands-on science activities. I would like a subscription to Scholastic News to start building background knowledge of current events. My idea is that I can take the ideas presented in Scholastic News and have them extend their learning to create something, whether with art supplies or Legos, based on their reading. For example, if the newsletter was about an astronauts journey to space, the kids can either draw an astronauts journey to space or recreate a space shuttle with Legos. I recently learned about creating a MakerSpace in the classroom from colleagues. With these items, I'm hoping to build a space in our classroom so my students can become little inventors. This would be the start of the creation of this space. I love the idea of students using duct tape to create different projects. I would love to have the duct tape, Legos, Perler beads, rainbow looms, with countless other art supplies constantly ready for the kids to collaborate and create. I really believe that students would be able to come together with common interests and create a stronger bond in our classroom. This is definitely going to become a favorite spot in the room!
