Children learn from making connections across subjects. The books I have requested will give me the ability to teach social studies and English Language Arts as one unit. Historical Fiction helps us understand the events of our country's history in an engaging and meaningful context. Students will use the books to research events that formed our nation, writing opinion and informational essays as well as creating classroom presentations. Connections made between our Constitution and historical events will engage students in writing, speaking and reading, meeting ELA common core standards through student learning about struggles experienced my those who came before them.
