My students will kick off the year by discovering how bullying feels, what it can look like, and why people do it through the lens of the main character in, "There's a Girl in the Boys' Bathroom." A safe classroom environment is the key. I like to start the year off creating a positive classroom and school environment through looking at the point of you of a bully, so that students can evaluate themselves. This book really makes all students reflect on previous behavior of themselves, their friends, and bullies. My students have very rich discussions about a difficult subject through reading this book.
