My goal for my World Literature course is to provide my students with opportunities to read books from people of varying perspectives and experiences. During the course of the year, students are asked to choose a book within parameters relating to a time in history, a geographic area, or a cultural perspective. My classroom library offers my students the opportunity to engage with people and cultures from around the world. As the year progresses, so does the need for the classroom library to grow. The books selected for this project include classic novels by African American authors, as well as young adult fiction. These books will provide the current and future students in this course with a chance to experience the richness of African American culture, and an insight into the perspective of African American young adults.
