The students within the classroom are newcomers to the US and come speaking a variety of different languages. All students in the program are from all over the district as my school is the only middle school that houses the Sheltered English Instruction class for grades 6-8. The students are dedicated to learning and pushing themselves. They translate for one another if they can help. The students are grouped by grade level and not English language development level; therefore, the class can have students that don't speak any English to those that are almost ready to be in a general education classroom. The students use the general education curriculum for English Language Arts with differentiation to make it work for them. Many students do not have access to technology at home and use their study hall to get any computer work done for classes. The students are required to do an online reading activity weekly too.
