These picture books will be used for read alouds, but then will also be used to enhance their reading and writing strategies. Mentor texts can be used as examples of good, strong writing for students to model in their own writing and can be referred to over and over. My goal is to use a diverse collection of picture books, both fiction and nonfiction, in order to allow all students to see themselves and hear their voices in the pages of the books. Students spend hours developing their own reading skills, but they are never too old to enjoy hearing a story being told.
