When students can have open and honest discussions about their world, they are much more engaged in learning. They will develop an appreciation for people who may not be like them and learn problem solving skills. Having these tools will empower them. Unless we teach them how to handle everyday situations, they will never know. It's up to those of us to lead them in the right direction.
