As educators, we embrace the challenge of teaching our students through lessons that are aligned with state standards and expectations. As a physical education teacher, many of these standards and expectations are difficult to achieve because they require specific resources that are not available to our economically disadvantaged community. Through this grant, I hope to narrow or close the gap between expectation and reality by bringing real world experiences to the classroom during this pandemic and beyond.
Funding of the GoPro 8 camera grant would allow me to bring a tailored experience into the classroom that would otherwise be subpar in addressing Outdoor/Adventure, a standard in which students learn how to swim, hike, and fish among other skills. It is difficult to meet as it requires resources like a pool, safe outdoor hiking trails, and fishing tackle for each student that will never been available to my students. I am a strong advocate of teaching standards through hands-on experience to better meet all of my students' learning needs. Given the lack of resources, ever growing budget cuts, and higher number of students per class, field trips are out of the question. Since I can't take my students out into the real world, I want to bring the world to them via this GoPro 8 camera grant.
