As an elementary music teacher, I try to bring a variety of musical experiences to my students, through playing instruments, singing, moving, creating, learning about music history and music of different cultures. One of the resources I would love to have in my classroom is a set of tone chimes. This particular set of tone chimes is 49 chimes and covers four octaves- from very low to very high notes. The more chimes I have, the more students can play and the more beautiful and full our ensemble can sound. Tone chimes are a simple yet engaging way for students to make beautiful music together and increase their musical literacy. Most students have not played tone chimes before, so they are a novelty for students. They have a beautiful sound and are easy to play. When playing tone chimes, each student is responsible for playing one individual note. This encourages students to work together as team to make music! Some students will play the supporting harmony notes and others will play the melody. I will be able to play the tone chimes with all grades, K-5. They are very sturdy instruments and can be played for many years to come. When we are allowed to have clubs outside of school again (not in covid times), I hope to start an Instrument Club at my school. We will perform a winter concert with our choir for our school community.
