During small-group guided reading instruction, the children work at standards-based centers. This allows me to meet with students while the rest of the class is working independently. In addition to a literacy center and a math center, I want to offer a center that focuses on creativity and self expression, and fosters an interest in STEM learning. I am asking for these materials to provide activities to spark imagination and exploration. Students will be excited to see what the center is each day. It may be an art activity, or the opportunity to build something with construction toys. They may write about what they see through a kaleidoscope or diffraction glasses. They may find a challenge to be met configuring chopsticks or play a cooperative game with classmates. By providing a variety of hands-on, engaging activities for my students, I will ensure that they stay on-task, motivated, and in love with learning.
