The 4th and 5th grade students that I service have special needs. Most are considered to be emotionally, behaviorally disabled, while others are cognitively impaired or are on the Autism Spectrum. It can be very difficult to keep their emotions in check while at school. Sometimes they are simply over stimulated and require items to self-regulate. By providing treasure box incentives, as well as sensory items, the students will likely do their best to earn the incentives. Not only will they be able to earn items that they truly desire (Takis chips, candy, and snacks), they will also be able to gain some fun, yet beneficial sensory items they can have to use when they begin to feel overwhelmed.
