My main goal with this ongoing project is to move away from the traditional, teacher-centered classroom and into a student-centered arrangement that promotes comfort, engagement and collaboration. A non-traditional classroom sparks interest and creativity, which are essential elements of a successful learning community. Different seating options will provide a physical outlet for more fidgety students without distracting the students around them. I'm requesting cushions and lap desks for students who want to sit on the floor and couch and stools for desks and alternative seats that can be placed anywhere in the room. The rockers and yoga balls that will allow for small movements. A flexible seating arrangement will help me promote excellence, equity and tolerance within my classroom by teaching students to take ownership of their work habits and be considerate of each others' differing needs.
