Research has shown us that our brains function best when we are active. Unfortunately my students don't have many opportunities to 'shake it' in class. Their classroom consists of a traditional room with traditional desks. Over the past year, I have implemented a couple different flexible seating options for them but I would love for them to have even more options. I would love to be able to give my students the option of standing and learning, bouncing and learning or sitting, if that's what they choose. I believe that our traditional desks and classroom set up does not allow our students to be comfortable or allow the space for all of their resources. Along with the previously stated problems, the desks in our room are literally falling apart. Students have ripped pants, cut their legs and have even had their desktop completely fall off. When this project is fulfilled, students in my room will be able to have the choice of standing while learning, sitting on an exercise ball and bouncing while learning, working at a high top table, or sitting in a traditional desk. Not only this but it will allow students the freedom of choice in my classroom. I truly believe that this will maximize their learning potential and focus.
