These new pieces of furniture would foster learning in my classroom in a whole new way. Last year, our school became one-to-one, meaning all of our students work from Google Chromebooks, which is why now is the perfect time to pursue this alternative seating option! When students are taken out of their normal, every day routine, new ideas and opportunities can awaken in students' minds. I would love to incorporate some fresh seating, like the Wobble chairs & balance ball chairs to allow for subtle movements while students are reading or writing. The Wobble cushions that go in the desks & the bouncy bands to go on the desks would also allow for movement in a still fairly traditional seating option, for students who work best in that manner. Also, bean bags around the room will provide a higher level of comfort while reading or writing. All of these options would allow for a variety of levels of comfort which hopefully could lead to discovery of new ideas. In addition, I would love to place lamps in all four corners of my classroom to avoid the generic and rigid feel of overhead fluorescent lighting, along with a rug that students could stretch out on while working. My biggest goal for this furniture and the new seating options for my students would be that it opens up a freshness, in particular, for their daily reading & writing experiences. I would love for my room to resemble a coffee house type of experience; this is often how authors in the real world are inspired, thus making it something I would love to create for my own students!
