My students need books at their level in order to build their vocabularies and their reading stamina. The best thing about reading is that it can take a person places they may otherwise not be able to go. Now-a-days with electronics taking over, kids have very little imagination. I love to foster that imagination with the love of literature. I need a good, strong, classroom library in order reach the depths of my students' imagination. My students will read fiction and non-fiction books and learn empathy, courage, bravery, stamina, and chivalry amongst many other character traits. The 2nd and 3rd grade level books that I have chosen for my classroom will be used for independent reading. Students will be able to go pick a book each week (or more if they finish it) to read independently during our read-to-self time of our literacy block. I also enjoy doing reading projects with students. This classroom library set will allow students to pick books of high interest to participate in a reading fair and other reading projects throughout the school year. Reading can help shape the lives of the young people in my classroom.
