The more a student reads, the more they learn. Their vocabulary expands, creativity is developed, and barriers about preconceived notions are dispelled. As students get into the upper grades, many stop reading; it becomes a chore. This project will help me create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable. The reading corner will be something used to encourage students to read, and the diverse books will represent the different backgrounds and abilities that enter my room, thus, removing the burden of the "chore" of reading. The combination of the space and the books will help foster independent reading, and in doing so, students will have opportunities to develop 21st-century skills and conversations about the world around them.
