In today’s classroom, students are best served by working in small groups. In order to help reach that goal and keep them engaged, it is important to have interesting, colorful and on-level materials so that the students can work carefully in their groups. While working in small groups, students can engage in learning materials while the teacher serves students in a closer setting. Teachers can learn firsthand what the deficiencies are and address them directly.
Engaging centers is the way to close the learning gaps that many students are missing. Active learning requires students to participate in class, as opposed to sitting and listening quietly. Strategies include, but are not limited to, hands-on activities and using manipulatives. My project will design and allow effective evaluation strategies and provide helpful feedback during centers. The items that I chose will allow students to engage in a variety of activities that will help them master the Common Core Standards, become great problem solvers and encourage them to think critically.
