Differentiation is essential to a successful learning environment that meets the individual needs of my students. Having a place for my students to meet for small group work is critical to their growth academically, social/emotionally, and linguistically. It provides a smaller teacher to student ratio, which has proven to increase their understanding and overall growth.
My students benefit from a kinesthetic and visual approach to learning. They would benefit from the use of a white board table to demonstrate their understanding of a concept through visual representation and/or written expression, in turn making learning more engaging for them. They would be able to answer comprehension questions through the use of pictures or varied leveled sentences, pose questions for myself and their peers, visually work through math problems, and extend on one another's responses. The table could be used across all content areas and would increase their interest in learning!
The flexible seating option enables my students to have a sensory outlet while they are learning. The alternative seating options integrate body breaks and movement during learning activities, which directly impacts many of my students' overall success. My students are noticeably more focused and engaged when sensory is integrated in and out of their general education classrooms.
