Students in my Kindergarten class come to school eager to learn how to read and to become independent readers. Currently, students can sit at their desks or on a tiled floor to look at books, either independently, with partners, or as a whole group. I would like to create an inviting, comfortable area where students can enjoy looking at books and develop their literacy skills. Students generally enjoy sitting on the floor and literacy is such a huge part of the Kindergarten curriculum that it makes sense to give them a cozy area to explore books, share ideas, and engage in other literacy activities. Next year we are moving from a half-day Kindergarten program to a full day program and I'd love to welcome them to the room with a nice area to collaborate and engage in literacy activities.
