My school is still growing out, meaning that my 10th grade students will be the first 10th grade students at their school. They deserve all of the resources and opportunities that the classes behind them will have access to. This starts with a strong classroom library. I want to create a classroom library so strong that every single one of the 10th grade scholars has access to a book that will interest and engage them. When students are engaged in what they read they are more likely to read more books and enhance their learning. This year, in the 9th grade the class read The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. One the students who has been the most resistant to reading, fell in love with The Great Gatsby and finished the book two weeks before the rest of the class. When he was given his summer reading list, he could not wait to get started. This is just one example of the many students that fell in love with the book, but for every student that loved The Great Gatsby, there were two students that did not. They deserve the opportunity to fall in love with reading. Having classroom library gets them that much closer to finding the book that will make them life long readers.
