Robert John Meehan said, "A well prepared and engaging teacher is a catalyst...a spark that creates the desire to learn in our students". Engagement is my top priority in my classroom. I strive to be that spark that ignites students into learning. For this project, students will gain materials necessary to complete an escape room lesson.
Engaging students with a game is a strategy that is proven to work in my classroom. Students will be able to complete content-related problems and work cooperatively to beat other groups to escape first. Not only does this activity work to engage students and practice content, but it gives them cooperative learning strategies that are necessary to be competent in a 21st-century society.
As an example, we are currently practicing commas. Rather than simply doing a worksheet or completing an activity, students could practice this skill in a group while working towards gaining clues and completing riddles to receive codes to open boxes first. These materials would truly transform our classroom.
