The rekenreks are the Number One way for young learners to engage with numbers, composing and decomposing numbers, figuring out what addition really is and how it relates to subtraction. In short, rekenreks help young minds develop a strong number sense that will support their math education for the rest of their lives. The ETA hand2mind 20-Bead Rekenrek Class Kit gives us just enough sets for each student to have one, in addition to a larger version I can use for modeling. I am happy to make "take home" versions using cardboard and pony beads on my own so that students can have them for homework practice as well. With this Class Kit and the hand-made model to practice with at home, my students will have a wonderful chance to develop their number sense.
