My students need a color printer and ink. They also use a lot of Velcro to help keep on schedule. My students will relate to a correctly colored item more than a greyscale or black and white picture. Imagine trying to help the visually challenged student to locate and recognize basic signs such as "stop" or "exit" or "danger" using a black and white visual. Our classroom uses numerous visual schedules including many aids to help our children to independently self monitor their routine throughout the day. We also use our visual sentence strips to help our children facilitate communication. Children that have difficulty retrieving the correct words, benefit from using colorful visuals to assist them while learning to express themselves. These items that we use also are very useful when students are trying to engage in conversations with their peers.
