As a teacher for the past 28 years, I have noticed the attention and focus of our children today getting more and more difficult to engage and maintain! In an effort to give each of my students an environment where they would have the best opportunity to succeed, I have decided to change my typical (desk and chair) classroom, into one that allows flexible seating. Research shows that allowing the student to choose their seat, as well as offering them various types of seating, helps to increase their ability to stay focus, on task, and pay attention. My classroom will be an environment where students will choose where they would like to sit for the activity or day, as well as what type of seating they would feel most comfortable in. By doing this, my hope is that students will be more actively engaged in the teaching and learning that is taking place.
